Sports weekend...

Me watched non-stop Sports on TV this weekend, privileged by unstoppable Monsoon that touched the city and raring to go full-throttle.

Some good news some bad news for Engish fans. While English cricket team riding on a high tides of success sweeping it clean and tidy, soccer team yet another time found itself standing in front of a wall, failing to open a European account on high note (For French fans it was a wait worth till the end...).

And like in cricket the match is not over till the last ball is bowled, it should be learnt now it is not over till injury time. Some Zs observation Zinedine Zidane turning the match, Becks going down from Hero to Zero, while fellow club-mate Barthez, becoming hero from zero. One more observation all three from same club, shaven headed...

Schumi... does it again. And going by saturday's qualifiers brother taking P1, it was pretty clear Ralf was in with a chance this time (to see the chequered flag after Michael, does it really matter for MS where he starts from?)

QLC revisited...

This is in response to my newly found online friend Chirayu's post last week (26th May'04) !

"I'm waiting for a call. I feel liking giving myself a kick on my backside."

Very honest thoughts Chirayu! straight from the heart ;-) and very timely.
First some heavy diet, with all due respect to quotes from Bhagvad Geeta:

Similar query was put long long time back by Partha to Keshava:

arjuna uvaca
jyayasi cet karmanas te
mata buddhir janardana
tat kim karmani ghore mam
niyojayasi keshava

meaning: "Arjuna said: O Janardana, O Keshava, why do You want to engage me in this ghastly warfare, if You think that intelligence is better than fruitive work?"

To this Krishna replies:

loke ’smin dvi-vidha nistha
pura prokta mayanagha
jnana-yogena sankhyanam
karma-yogena yoginam

meaning: "O sinless Arjuna, I have already explained that there are two classes of men who try to realize the self. Some are inclined to understand it by empirical, philosophical speculation, and others by devotional service.
"

he further explained:
na hi kascit ksanam api
jatu tisthaty akarma-krt
karyate hy avasah karma
sarvah prakriti-jair gunaih

meaning: "Everyone is forced to act helplessly according to the qualities he has acquired from the modes of material nature; therefore no one can refrain from doing something, not even for a moment."

This is some nice shloka ahead in the Geeta:
tattva-vit tu maha-baho
guna-karma-vibhagayoh
guna gunesu vartanta
iti matva na sajjate

Meaning : "One who is in knowledge of the Absolute Truth, O mighty-armed, does not engage himself in the senses and sense gratification, knowing well the differences between work in devotion and work for fruitive results."

Now some desserts...

i am no expert at it but let me advice here: "seems like you are on the same path as many of us (including me!) feels at this stage of our life. One of my friend had very beutifully described this thing sometime back as "quarter life crisis". Ever heard of it? So it is very obvious. Also as me too not married yet, i can not pass a judgement as really marriage would stabilize the things for you ;-) ? (if indeed it does, let me know ;-) too, because i am also too scared to ruin my life for something never tried... )

But yes, someone had told me "to do whatever you are doing right now with full vigour and dedication, do whatever you are entitled to do. But how would you know what is right and wrong you should be doing, but that does not mean you should keep hopping from place to place in search of something even better, keep on switching things like that. Life is not after all a television set whose remote is in your hand... you are bored and you switch the channel (sometime you just keep switching the channels not sure what you want to watch)..."

OK enough is that babbling...

But at least isn't it good to think about all these things and again getting back to work after convincing the evil in our empty mind that there is no better option or even if it is, it is after you successfully accomplish the job in hand?

That rediscovers to me my favorite song "Live and let die..."

Win-some Lose-some

General Elections... and win-loss in general

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
-Vince Lombardi

The great 2004 war is just over and here cometh the Judgement Day!

First most praise to EC for migrating from good old plain vanilla (without hot chocolate) election infrastructure to multi phased electronic EVMs all over...

...And results are just coming out; and all would know for once if it is really shining or whining?

...some, for sure would know how 'being on top' is near to 'being toppled'; Andhra babu Naidu been already done in by Reddy... Another great lessons for the political greenhorns::economy can boom without agronomy but not the election prospects...

An Unusual Story

The 479-word story consists only of words beginning with a 'W' and only 17
of those words are hyphenated compounds.

'Warm weather, Walter! Welcome warm weather! We were wishing winter would
wane, weren't we?'

'We were well wearied with waiting,' whispered Waiter wearily. Wan,white,
woe-begone was Walter; wayward, willful, worn with weakness, wasted, waxing
weaker whenever winter's wild, withering winds were wailing. Wholly without
waywardness was Winifred, Walter's wise, womanly watcher, who, with winsome,
wooing way, was well-beloved.

'We won't wait, Walter; while weather's warm we'll wander where woodlands
wave, won't we?'

Walter's wanton wretchedness wholly waned. 'Why, Winnie, we'll walk where we
went when we were with Willie; we'll weave wildflower wreaths, watch woodmen
working; woodlice, worms wriggling; windmills whirling; watermills wheeling;
we will win wild whortleberries, witness wheat winnowed.'

Wisbeach woods were wild with wildflowers; warm, westerly winds whispered
where willows were waving; wood-pigeons, wrens, woodpeckers were warbling
wild woodnotes. Where Wisbeach water-mill's waters, which were wholly
waveless, widened, were waterlilies, waxen white. Winifred wove wreaths with
woodbine, whitehorn, wallflowers; whilst Walter whittled wooden wedges with
willow wands.

Wholly without warning, wild wet winds woke within Wisbeach woods, whistling
where Winifred wandered with Walter; weeping willows were wailing weirdly;
waging war with wind-tossed waters. Winifred's wary watchfulness waked.

'Walter, we won't wait.'

'Which way, Winnie?'

Winifred wavered. 'Why, where were we wandering? Wisbeach woods widen
whichever way we walk. Where's Wisbeach white wicket, where's Winston's
water-mill?'

WistfuIly, Walter witnessed Winifred's wonder. 'Winnie, Winnie, we were
wrong, wholly wrong; wandering within wild ways. Wayfaring weather-beaten
waifs, well-nigh worn-out.'

Winifred waited where, within wattled woodwork walls, wagons, wheelbarrows,
wains were waiting, weighty with withered wood. Walter, warmly wrapped with
Winifred's well-worn wadded waterproof, was wailing woefully, wholly
wearied. Winnie, who, worn with watching, well-nigh weeping, was wistfully,
wakefully waiting Willie's well-known whistle, wholly wished Walter's
well-being warranted.

With well-timed wisdom, Walter was wound with wide, worsted wrappers, which
wonderfully well withstood winter's withering, whistling winds. Wholly
without warm wrappers was Winifred, who, with womanly wisdom, was watching
Walter's welfare, warding Walter's weakness.

'When will Willie wend where we wait?' wearily wondered Walter.

'Whist, Walter,' whispered Winnie, 'who was whooping?'

'Whereabouts?'

Welcome whistling was waking Wisbeach woods when winter's windy warfare
waxed weaker.

'Winnie! Walter!'

Winifred's wakefulness was well-grounded. 'We're well, Willie; we're where
Winston's wagons wait.' Without waiting, Willie was within Winston's
woodwork walls.

'Welcome, welcome, Willie.' Winnie was weeping with weariness with watching
Walter, weak with wayfaring.

'Why Winnie! Wise, watchful, warm-hearted Winnie,' Willie whispered
wheedlingly. 'We won't weep; Walter's well. What was Walter without Winnie?'

Wholly wonderful was Winifred's well-timed womanly wisdom, which well
warranted weakly Walter's welfare. Whenever wandering within Wisbeach woods
with Winnie, Walter would whisper, 'What was Walter without Winnie? Wise,
watchful, warm-hearted Winnie!'

What is Love...???
Hmmmm.... this thought is not mine, yet very much in assent.

"Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up.

You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...

You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore.

Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain."

We know all this, dont we?? But still we love!!! Because Love is beautiful...so as Life. We cannot escape Life...and so as Love.

Love like nothing else matters. For without love, it really doesn't !!!

A Passing Thought...

The value of challenge

Challenge is life's way of making sure that you truly desire the things you achieve. Challenge is an excellent tool for keeping you focused on the things that really matter to you.

Imagine for a moment what it would be like to live in a world with no challenge. In such a world, you could obtain anything and everything with no need for effort, discipline or commitment. Does that sound like a great setup, with your every wish fulfilled the moment you think of it? Well, it might be nice for 20 minutes or so, but it would soon grow extremely tiresome. For such a world would literally overwhelm you with meaningless triviality. Sure, every wish would be instantly granted, but it would all be painfully empty.

The value of achievement is in the achieving, in the overcoming of the challenges, in the person you become as a result of going through the process. To have the reward without the effort is to have no reward at all, nothing but an empty and meaningless token.

Challenge is difficult, often painful, always demanding, and as such, challenge is what makes true value, beauty and fulfillment possible. Challenge can be tough, yet indeed it brings about the richness and fullness of life.

Thats The Law

Everyone knows Murphy's Law: "Anything that can go wrong, will..." - Here
are some other Laws you may not have heard!

Murphy's Technology Law #1:
You can never tell which way the train went by looking at the track.

Murphy's Technology Law #2:
Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with
confidence.

Murphy's Technology Law #3:
Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand.

Murphy's Technology Law #4:
An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he/she
knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Murphy's Technology Law #5:
Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe, and he'll believe
you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it, and he'll have to touch to be
sure.

Murphy's Technology Law #6:
All great discoveries are made by mistake.

Murphy's Technology Law #7:
Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget.

Murphy's Technology Law #8:
A meeting is an event at which minutes are kept and hours are lost.

Murphy's Technology Law #9:
New systems generate new problems.

Murphy's Technology Law #10:
To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer.

Murphy's Technology Law #11:
We don't know one-millionth of one percent about anything.

Murphy's Technology Law #12:
A computer makes as many mistakes in two seconds as 20 men working 20 years
make.

Murphy's Technology Law #13:
Any given program, when running, is obsolete.

Lorenz's Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with
grease, your nose will begin to itch.

Anthony's Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the
least accessible corner.

Lowery's Law of Home Repair: If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed
replacing anyway

Beach's Law: Interchangeable parts aren't.

William's Law: There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be
solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Lane's Law of Supply and Demand: The one item you need is always in short
supply.

Cannon's Karmic Law: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you
had a flat tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire.

Norman Einstein's Law: If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

Col. Murphy's Law of Combat: Never forget that your weapon was made by the
lowest bidder!

a recent googgle gave me this hit (that prompted me to find the old torned hard copy)...
and with that me shall pass yet another sunday in the cold confines of my prized pile of print-out papers...

We were pretty much all alone out there, and it was dark and cold and late. I kissed her again. But not on the forehead, and not lightly.
It lasted a long nice time. When we stopped kissing, she was still holding on to my sleeves.
'I don't like it,' she said.
'What?'
'The fact that I like it.'

Yaadein, Yaadein! buss yaadein reh jaati hain...

Gone are the days, ...........but not the memories
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gone are the days
When the school reopened in June,
And we settled in our new desks and benches.

Gone are the days
When we queued up in book depot,
And got our new books and notes.

Gone are the days
When we wanted two Sundays and no Mondays, yet
Managed to line up daily for the morning prayers.

Gone are the days
We learnt writing with slates and pencils, and progressed
To fountain pens and ball pens and then micro tips.

Gone are the days
We began drawing with crayons and evolved to
Colour pencils and finally sketch pens.

Gone are the days
We started calculating first with tables and then with
Clarkes tables and advanced to calculators and computers.

Gone are the days
When we chased one another in the corridors in Intervals,
And returned to the classrooms drenched in sweat.

Gone are the days
When we had lunch in classrooms, corridors,
Playgrounds, under the trees and even in cycle sheds.

Gone are the days
When all the colours in the world,
Decorated the campus on the Second Saturdays.

Gone are the days
When a single P.T. period in the week's Time Table,
Was awaited more eagerly than the monsoons.

Gone are the days
When cricket was played with writing pads as bats,
And Neckties and socks rolled into balls.

Gone are the days
When few played "kabadi" and "kho-kho" in scorching sun,
While others simply played "book cricket" in the confines of
classroom.

Gone are the days
Of fights but no conspiracies,
Of Competitions but seldom jealousy.

Gone are the days
When we used to watch Live Cricket telecast,
In the opposite house in Intervals and Lunch breaks.

Gone are the days
When few rushed at 3:45 to
"Conquer" window seats in our School bus.

Gone are the days
While few others had "Big Fun", "pulippu muttai",
"gulfi ice", "seeval ice !" and "pepsi !" at 4o Clock.

Gone are the days
Of Sports Day, and the annual School Day ,
And the one-month long preparations for them.

Gone are the days
Of the stressful Quarterly, Half Yearly and Annual Exams,
And the most enjoyed holidays after them.

Gone are the days
Of tenth and twelfth standards, when we
Spent almost the whole year writing revision tests.

Gone are the days
We learnt, we enjoyed, we played, we won, we lost,
We laughed, we cried, we fought, we thought.

Gone are the days
With so much fun in them, so many friends,
So much experience, all this and more.

Gone are the days
But not the memories, which will be
Lingering in our hearts for ever and ever and
Ever and ever and
Ever
Spirit of Friendship

worth reading it ;-)

Horror gripped the heart of a World War-I soldier, as he saw his lifelong
friend fall in battle. The soldier asked his Lieutenant if he could go out
to bring his fallen comrade back.

"You can go," said the Lieutenant,"but don't think it will be worth it. Your
friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away.

"The Lieutenant's words didn't matter, and the soldier went
anyway.Miaculously, he managed to reach his friend, hoisted him onto his
shoulder and brought him back to their company's trench. The officer checked
the wounded soldier , then looked kindly at his friend. " I told you it
wouldn't be worth it," he said. "Your friend is dead and you are mortally
wounded." "It was worth it, Sir," said the soldier. "What do you mean by
worth it?" responded the Lieutenant. " Your friend is dead." "Yes Sir," the
soldier answered," but it was worth it because when I got to him,he was
still alive and I had the satisfaction of hearing him say...."Jim...I knew
you'd come."

Many times in life, whether a thing is worth doing or not, really depends
on how u look at it. Take up all your courage and do something your heart
tells you to do so that you may not regret not doing it later in your
life........
touching...

But You Didnt.......

Remember the time when I took your brand new car out and dented it?I thought
you would kill me...........But you didnt.............

And the time when I dragged you to the beach saying that it wouldnt rain
even though you said it would and it actually did?I thought you would say "I
told you"..................But you didnt..........

And the time when I flirted with all the guys at the party , just to make
you jealous and you were.I thought you would leave me...............But you
didnt...........

And the time I forgot to tell you that the dance was formal and you turned
up in jeans.......I thought you would drop me........But you didnt.........

These were a few things and many more about which I wanted to make up to you
once you returned from the War............. But you didnt...............
